Acadia FCU Marathon

Caleb Streinz, a 2018 Maine junior national, used the final 10km lap of the 2018 Acadia Federal Credit Union ski marathon to pull away from Jason Bartley of the University of Maine at Presque Isle ski team completing the 40km race in 1:53:34. Bartley, also a former junior national skier, was 1:20 seconds behind with Lance McKinney of Fort Fairfield finishing in 3rd with a time of 1:55:33.

On the women’s side and fresh off her U18 women’s Eastern High School Championship win last weekend, Abigail Streinz cruised the course in 1:45:19, distancing her sisters Hannah and Lydia Strienz by several seconds. She was also a 2018 junior national, representing Maine and the New England region in competitions at Soldier Hollow, Utah in early March.

A total of 29 racers participated in the annual event, which was the last race of the season of the Aroostook Cup Nordic ski series. The Fort Kent Outdoor Center took home top honors for the season but instead delivered the traveling trophy to the Streinz family, all FKOC members, for safe keeping, as their family accumulated more points than the rest of the club’s members. Clubs from Stockholm, Madawaska, Caribou, Limestone and Presque Isle also participated in the annual series with races scattered at the various clubs starting in early January. Other Streinz family members, Luke and Hannah, were the overall individual champions for the men and women. Acadia Federal Credit Union CEO and President, David Desjardins, was on hand to deliver prizes on behalf of their organization.
